Hong Wen-Tsien studied piano and instrumental teaching at the Vienna Music
University until 1997. In 2003 she finished her dissertation on the music
of Friedrich Nietzsche and received a PhD degree in musicology (published
as a book entitled "Friedrich Nietzsche und die Musik im Spiegel der
Kompositions- und Geistesgeschichte des 19. Jahrhunderts", Peter Lang,
Frankfurt et al. 2004). She has taught cultural history at the Tamkang University
Taipei, piano at the Taiwan University of the Arts and music aesthetics at
the Chiao-Tung University Hsinchu. Her essays on cultural and political topics
have been published frequently by scholarly journals and newspapers in Taiwan.
Since 1993 Hong has given many concerts in Vienna and Graz as well as a concert
series in Taiwan. In 1994 she received a prize at the Maria Canals International
Piano Competition in Barcelona, and in 1996 she participated in a Brahms cycle
at the Vienna Konzerthaus. Her concerts have been broadcast by Austrian Radio,
Deutschlandfunk (Cologne), and Deutschlandradio (Berlin).
